Greg Oreck

Greg Oreck

Bio

Filled with a lifelong infatuation for music, Greg Oreck first witnessed its power and beauty as part of the New York dance scene in the early 90s. At the crossroads of Deep House, Techno, Disco, IDM he was infected by it's passion and shaped by the melting pot that both the city and its music scene encompassed. Old heads from the Paradise Garage shared the dancefloors with young ravers and techno kids while in the DJ booths and studios this same mix of influences was coming together to create new sounds and ideas that lead to what was truly a golden age for the city's dance scene.

From these roots Greg grew; DJ'ing around New York and then further away, playing clubs from Europe to New Zealand and then coming home to NYC inspired by the new sounds and records he found abroad. All the while, honing his skills in the studio and trying to put all the disparate pieces together, just as his musical heroes had done before him.

With various productions under a variety of pseudonyms Greg is most recently known as part of Thugfucker, his collaboration with Holmar Filipsson, with a string of releases on labels like Music For Freaks, Moodmusic, Global Underground, Dirt Crew, Brique Rouge to name a few.

His music has been played and supported by a wide spectrum of heavy hitters such as Laurent Garnier, Derrick Carter, DJ Sneak, Mark Farina, Tiefschwarz, D'Julz, Steve Bug, Erol Alkan, DJ Hell, Ralph Lawson, Carl Craig, Ivan Smagghe, Mike Monday among many others.

In addition to his dance work, he has also won a best soundtrack award at Sundance for his film work and is currently collaborating on a new ambient electronic project, The Department of Human Genetics, with renowned producer Eli Janney (from 90s indie rock supergroup Girls Against Boys).

"Coffee is Ecstasy" is the first fruit of his new collaboration with Master H, one that began and continues to blossom through the strong passion and dedication to music that these two artists both share.

Greg currently lives in Rome, Italy.
